The Situation
Halle Temple was a fierce fighter, colleague, and friend. Though Halle had to fight Ewing’s Sarcoma three times in her life, she never let those battles get her down. Halle’s fight ended in May of 2020, but the Share Your Story Foundation and halle grace brand remain to meet the practical needs of families affected by cancer.
What We Did
Halle’s vision was to reduce life’s stress surrounding treatment. This way, patients have more energy to fight their battles. One such example was comfortable and practical clothing to cancer patients. Hospital gowns are cold, thin, and bland. Halle dreamed of designing comfortable, practical and stylish pajamas with the patient in mind.
Our work involved creating awareness of Halle’s vision and the impact a small gesture could have on someone’s most significant fight.
Step One: Differentiate Halle’s story. Think about it. Who chooses to wear hospital gowns? Halle’s practical alternative created ample social media content and then dovetail into earned media.
Step Two: Create an Instagram account and a social media calendar with general themes on the power of perseverance in fighting cancer. This would enable us to join a larger conversation and not feel intrusive or sales-minded. We also combed through Halle’s blog, talked to her loved ones and conducted other research to ensure we continued to appropriately share Halle’s legacy and vision.
Step Three: Find others with a larger audience who could put their spin on Halle’s vision on hope, faith, and fashion.
The Results
We started from scratch. Within a week, Halle’s social media reel received more than 2,000 views. Over the last four months, the Instagram account reached nearly 22,000 people with a 5.8% engagement rate. We also partnered with two pediatric cancer influencers who combined to have more than 70,000 followers.
The social media work also created opportunities to share Halle’s story in new and diverse spaces. The foundation worked with NC4K, a renowned pediatric cancer charity, to have a fashion show at the launch party of the foundation’s pajama collection. Media coverage was also syndicated nationwide through Yahoo.
The foundation has expanded to provide three apartments throughout the year to families going through cancer treatment. Additionally, hallegrace apparel is being sold online and the team is working with children’s hospitals across the nation to continue to keep Halle’s legacy alive.
